Private Tutoring for Autistic Child in Christchurch
What is Autism?
Autism or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person communicates, processes information, interacts with others and experiences the world around them. It is called a “spectrum” because autism presents differently in every individual. Some people may need more support with daily tasks, while others may be highly independent but face challenges in social or sensory environments.
Autism is a lifelong condition, but with the right understanding and support, autistic individuals can thrive. Many go on to lead happy, fulfilling and successful lives. Recognising and supporting each child’s unique strengths, interests and learning needs is key to helping them reach their full potential.
Areas where tutoring for Autism can help
Every child learns differently and children with autism may benefit from extra support in a variety of developmental areas. Tailored Tutoring can assist your child in:
Catching up in reading, writing or maths with a personalised, one to one programme.
Developing speech and language skills to support everyday communication and social interaction.
Strengthening fine motor skills such as handwriting, using scissors, threading beads or completing craft activities.
Improving gross motor skills like catching and throwing a ball, climbing, skipping and jumping.
Learning daily routines and life skills through visual supports like sequencing cards, e.g., getting ready in the morning, making a bed or packing a bag ready for school.
How I can help tutor a child with Autism
Every child is unique and the support I provide is tailored to their individual strengths, challenges and needs. During our initial meeting, I’ll take the time to understand your child and work with you to create a personalised programme that suits them best.
Whether your child needs help with communication, literacy, numeracy, motor skills or daily routines, tutoring sessions will be designed to support their growth in a calm and encouraging environment.
